Surin Beach is a compact bay of fine sand backed by wooded hills, known for its sunsets. Administratively it lies within Cherng Talay subdistrict. Kamala is the next bay to the south and the long beach of Bang Tao begins to the north, so the area sits between two of the west coast's most established residential markets.

Surin has long been a holiday-home address, with a settled, established feel: hotels and residences on the headlands, restaurants and cafés near the beach, and the shops and services of Cherng Talay close by. Most apartments for sale here are in condominium buildings set on the slopes above the bay, and many are listed with a sea view. Rooftop pools, fitness rooms and children's pools are common, and several projects are run as resort-style residences with their own restaurant.

When comparing units, look at the floor, the orientation and what the view really takes in, and ask about the common-area fees, the sinking fund and whether the building offers rental management. Villas are a smaller part of the Surin selection. Most sit on the hillsides above the bay, built to make the most of the view, and have a private pool; some are in managed developments where the estate looks after the grounds and common areas.

Many Surin buyers want a home for part of the year that is looked after, and perhaps let, while they are away. Check the building's rules on short-term letting and what its management actually covers.
