Bang Tao is a long bay on Phuket's west coast, with Surin to the south and Layan at its northern end. Behind the beach lies Laguna Phuket, a resort area of lagoons, hotels, residences and a golf course, and many of the area's residential projects are in and around it.

Everyday life centres on the beach, Laguna and the shops, restaurants and services of Cherng Talay, including Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket. Phuket International Airport, in the north of the island, is closer to Bang Tao than to the southern beaches.

Condominiums make up a large share of what is for sale in Bang Tao — resort-style projects set around Laguna's lagoons and golf course, and low-rise buildings a short distance from the beach.
