Chalong is a subdistrict of Mueang Phuket, the island's capital district, bordered by Rawai to the south and by Karon, Kathu and Wichit. It is home to Wat Chalong, the most important of Phuket's Buddhist temples, and to a large resident community, Thai and international, who live here all year.

That shows in daily life: supermarkets, fresh markets, restaurants, gyms, clinics and other services are spread through the area rather than concentrated on a beachfront. From Chalong, Phuket Town, the southern beaches and the west coast are all within reach by road, which suits people who work, study or run a household here.

Chalong's shoreline is Chalong Bay, best known for Chalong Pier, the departure point for many boat trips to islands such as Racha and Coral Island. The bay is a working harbour as much as a view, and for people who spend time on the water, living nearby is part of the appeal.
